What are some good board games for an 8 yr old boy?

Thinking of getting some sort of a game for my little brother for Christmas. He's always looking to play board game type games with me %26amp; my sister. Any suggestions on what an 8 yr old boy might find fun? What are some good board games for an 8 yr old boy?
Buy him the DVD "Searching For Bobby Fischer" and give him a chess set with it! Chess is the most awesome board game there is!

The DVD is a true story of Josh Waitskin who defeated a master chess player while he was only ten years old.

I am going to ste outside of the box and suggest a game called Blockus. The reviews on it is incredible, and the game is geared for everyone. I bought it when my son was 8; five years later I am playing it with my 6 year old. I've never played it with anyone that didn't enjoy the game. Easy to learn and difficult to master. I hoe that this helps. What are some good board games for an 8 yr old boy?
If you are looking for some good games try going to http://www.boardgamegeek.com/ and look at their geek lists or just post in the general forum. There are a lot of folks on there with kids and 8 years of age seems to be the point where most kids start to pick up the strategy games. What are some good board games for an 8 yr old boy?
For a boy of that age I would consider jenga, battleship, mancala, operation, connect 4, apples to apples, cranium.
Monopoly's a fun game for little kids,

Also, scrabble is fun too in order for kids to learn how to spell and stuff.
Arkham horror.
Bro, get him a computer game or something. I don't know about him but I sure as hell wouldn't want a board game. Better yet get him a gift card for his favorite store.
rush hour, blokus, abalone, pentago, allowance, snatch word game, scrabble
