Are there other board games similar to Go?

I was wondering if there are other classic (1800s or earlier) board games that are similar to Go in objective. By objective, I mean the goal is to capture / control board territory rather than just capture opponent pieces. It can use stones like Go, shaped pieces like chess, or whatever. I don't mean "connect the dots" type games either like Gomoku. The country of origin doesn't matter. Are there other board games similar to Go?
Perhaps you're looking for the game called Othello.
Take a look at the the World of Abstract Games:

Also, I hope you're familiar with Amazons, one of my favorite games:

Finally, if you haven't already done so, do a Google Search on territory abstract games (or something similar) and be sure to visit the boardgamegeek website. Are there other board games similar to Go?
